At WHS, we are committed to provide leadership training and experiences for ALL students. Current leadership programs include conferences in the traditional sense, along with a conference targeted at under-represented students. An important leadership program we are developing is a community-mentor program, where WHS students and community members work together. By developing a relationship with an adult in the community, the students gain knowledge and experience to help their transition from student to contributing citizen.
In the choir department, students often take on the job of directing or producing a concert. In band and orchestra, students lead their peers as section leaders or as drum major.
Journalism students work together on a story for the Apple Leaf, the student newspaper at WHS. The Apple Leaf is printed every three weeks, allowing students to practice various skills, from research and writing to design and editing. The Apple Leaf has won numerous state and national awards. WHS students manage the sound boards at a Pep Assembly. The C.R.E.W. handles lighting and sound for many WHS events, including assemblies, dances and concerts.
